# Import dataset items from CSV

> Import coefficient values from a CSV file into a dataset. Requires owner permissions.

**CSV format required**:
- **Label** (required): Human-readable name
- **Key** (required): Unique identifier
- **Value** (required): Coefficient number
- **Unit** (required): Measurement unit
- **Extra columns**: Become metadata fields

**Import modes**:
- `upsert`: Add new coefficients or update existing ones (recommended)
- `replace`: Delete all existing data and import fresh
- `append`: Only add new coefficients, skip existing keys

**File requirements**:
- Keys must be unique within the dataset
- Values must be valid numbers
- All required columns must be present
- File size limits apply

**Common uses**:
- Load initial coefficient data from external sources
- Update datasets with new regulatory values
- Migrate data from other environmental systems
- Bulk update multiple coefficients at once
